A Multicultural Team

The three members of Tierra y Cal have combined forces to create a team capable of offering a broad range of services for clients seeking assistance in the implementation of projects dedicated to the principles of sustainability.

James Hallock, BA in History from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois; was born Sheridan, Wyoming, USA.  jimhallock@tierraycal.com

With 39 years of experience in the construction industry, Jim Hallock has dedicated the last 17 years to promote earthen construction as part of a solution to global environmental and housing concerns.  Beginning with the 1994 founding of Earth Block, Inc. in Colorado, he has built dozens of CEB homes and helped create The New Mexico CEB code, the first in the U.S.  Since the founding of Tierra y Cal in Mexico, he has expanded his efforts on an international scale, consulting on both high-end developments and affordable housing projects around the world, and has pioneered the use of lime as a stabilizer in compressed earth block construction.

Together with Jeff Rottler, Jim designed and installed the CEB production plant at Loreto Bay Company, where over 2 million CEBs were produced over two years.  Jim and Jeff tested, developed, and implemented the specifications for lime stabilized earth blocks, provided training in construction of CEBs and lime plasters.

Jeff Rottler, a sociologist and builder, focuses on sustainable rural community development in Latin America and has primarily concentrated on earthen construction for the past 8 years.  He has managed earth block manufacturing plants in several projects as well as providing training in CEB wall construction and natural plasters.
